La primera jornada del Festival Brugal del Merengue; Puerto Plata 2007, se desarrolló de manera exitosa, en la conocida Puntilla del Malecón, en esta costera ciudad.

La jornada artística del espectáculo merenguero, fue dedicado al fecundo compositor Luís Kalaff, contó con el aval de la Secretaría de Estado de Turismo.
La apertura musical correspondió al Grupo Fantasía; cuarteto de jóvenes, con ágiles movimientos en tarima y sus temas: "Bandida", "Dicen", "No quiero tenerla", y "Como ayer".
Miguel Ángel, agradeció a Brugal el haberlo invitado y logró una de las mejores empatías entre el público, gracias a su estilo juvenil y frescura de su voz, realizó un show en el que incluyó un medley de su repertorio de éxito conseguido a su paso por diferentes agrupaciones, agregando los de su más reciente producción "Se me escapa el alma", "No puedo con ella" y "Me has vuelto loco".
¡Cintura, cintura, cintura! Así gritaba Rafa Rosario, líder de los Hermanos Rosario, con el merengue "Rompe Cintura", demostrando que aún puede moverse como su hijo Rafeli, luego "Me voy pal pueblo", "El Lápiz", "Mujeres calientes", entre otros, convirtiéndose en los mejores de la noche.
El merengue típico recayó en el nativo de la zona, Kiko, conocido como el Presidente, quien apareció elegantemente vestido para hacer su repertorio a los asistentes que llegaron tanto de la capital como del interior y del extranjero y periodistas de los principales periódicos del país, otros medios locales y de Santiago.
En el marco de las presentaciones de grupos, hubo un espacio para que la sub secretaria de turismo con asiento en Puerto Plata, Bernardita Abott, apoyando el esfuerzo de la SECTUR con el evento merenguero. 
Digital 15 difundió el festival, y un emotivo reportaje sobre la vida de Luís Kalaff, En tanto que Michael Miguel, Brenda Sánchez se encargaron de la presentación de los artistas y Jaris Ramírez entrevistó detrás del escenario.
El festival Brugal del Merengue de Puerto Plata, es un aporte de la firma Brugal, empresa del ramo por más de 100 años, que esta bajo la dirección de Ángel Duvergé, gerente de promoción.
En la segunda noche Francisco Ulloa, Cherito, Kinito y El Jeffrey, en tanto que para la noche final del domingo la participación de Las Chican, Eddy Herrera, Milly Quezada, y El Prodigio.
